Bury Safeguarding Children Board

Working together to safeguard children and young people in Bury

Statement regarding approaches by media companies

BSCB statement following the BSCB meeting on 13 March 2013

The BSCB is aware that children and young people's services are on occasion approached by the media requesting to be put in touch with their service users to participate in reality programmes, documentaries and talk shows etc.

The BSCB recognises that the responsibility for deciding whether to participate is made in accordance with partner organisations' governance and on a case by case basis.

However, BSCB would advise partners to consider the following points when considering such requests:

  • The welfare of the child or young person is paramount
  • The wishes and feelings of the child or young person in light of their age and understanding
  • The lifelong consequences for the child or young person
  • The consent of all persons with parental responsibility for the child or young person is obtained.
